The summer months are nigh in the northern hemisphere, so this is as good a time as any to run down the best ways to spend time in the heat. Even if the high temperatures aren’t your cup of tea, these outdoor options are awesome enough to entice even the most vampiric of you.
It’s the closest thing to flying you can get in a speedo. Feel the wind on your face as you soar through the skies at high speeds before dropping to the cool waters below.
Or maybe you like your beach outings to happen on the actual beach. Bikinis, volleyball, skim boarding, surfing, sneaking certain illicit beverages in solo cups, and, my personal favorite, beach running – it’s hard to beat the beach in the summer heat. Just don’t forget the sunscreen.
Even when it gets hot, biking is like having a constant breeze blowing over you at all times. We think it’s best done down a mountain, but for the less adventurous (or mountain-deprived), look no further than your local sidewalk and get pedaling.
Nothing says summer like a big, juicy burger off the grill. Try heading down to the nearest park and use a BYOC (bring your own charcoal) public grill if you don’t have one of your own, or just to make a whole day out of it.
There’s no better time to dive head-first into near-freezing water oozing straight out of the earth than when it’s 100+ degrees outside. Grab a snorkel and some friends and find the nearest national park with a spring and get freezing. Some even have natural “lazy rivers.”
Too hot to go outside? Heck, just see a movie. Just don’t get burnt in the parking lot
